📜 History
Reading Festival was founded in 1961 as the National Jazz Festival and evolved into the UK's premier rock and alternative music event. In 1999, a twin site was added in Leeds, creating the Reading & Leeds Festival format where the same lineup plays both sites over the August bank holiday weekend. With a combined capacity of 105,000 per day, the festivals have hosted legendary performances from Nirvana, Arctic Monkeys, and Foo Fighters. Reading & Leeds is known for its rowdy atmosphere, with traditions including the burning of tents on the final night. The festivals have launched the careers of countless artists and remain a rite of passage for British music fans.
